Board Member Description

The Parent Information Center (PIC) Board of Directors is comprised of a diverse group of individuals who have energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to improve outcomes for all children in the NH. Board members have a variety of backgrounds and experiences to truly represent the families and communities PIC serves. As a statewide family organization, more than 50% of the PIC Board Members represent families of children with disabilities aged from birth – 26.

Mission

PIC is a statewide family organization that provides families and youth, with a focus on children/youth with disabilities/special health care needs, and the providers who serve them, with the knowledge and support they need to make informed decisions that enhance each child’s development and well-being. We achieve positive outcomes through our partnerships with families, youth, educators, organizations, and others.

Board Member Position

The PIC Board provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance to PIC and supports the work of staff by taking an active role in high profile events and in the promotion of PIC services and resources. While day-to-day operations are led by PIC’s Executive Director (ED), the Board-ED relationship is a partnership, and Board involvement is both critical and expected.

Each member of the Board is entrusted with the vital responsibility to embrace their role wholeheartedly and passionately support the mission, vision, and goals of PIC. These guiding principles, defined by the Board, enable us to fulfill our commitments to grant and funding objectives.

Board Responsibilities

  • Regularly reviewing and adopting PIC’s mission and vision statement, management’s performance in adhering to it, and reviewing broad written policies to reflect the mission and values.
  • Ensuring that the board is carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, including:
  • Funding plans to support current and long-range strategies,
  • Reviewing periodic and annual financial statements and budgets,
  • Approving necessary audit reports and material business decisions.
  • Reviewing and updating PIC’s Strategic Plan.
  • Evaluating outcomes and metrics for measuring impact, performance, and effectiveness.
  • Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the ED.
  • Assisting the ED and board chair in identifying and recruiting Board Members to meet Board requirements to ensure PIC’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities PIC serves.
  • Representing PIC to stakeholders and acting as a goodwill ambassador for the organization.
  • Preparing for, attending, and actively participating in board and committee meetings and special events.
  • Members are expected to attend at least 75% of the regular monthly board meetings.
  • Members must notify the Chair and/or the ED if unable to attend a meeting.
  • If a member is absent for three consecutive meetings without notice, they may be removed.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of the board’s executive actions.
  • Board members are expected to avoid involvement in all political campaigns in the name of the organization unless explicitly directed by the Board or ED to question or present an advocacy issue on behalf of the organization.

Qualifications

This is a unique opportunity for an individual who is passionate about PIC’s mission. The ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to parents or caregivers of children with disabilities ages birth through 26.
  • A strong commitment to supporting PIC’s mission.
  • Excellent diplomacy skills and a natural ability to cultivate relationships, persuade others, facilitate discussions, and build consensus among diverse groups.
